Samantha Hartley
Hi! My name is Samantha Hartley, and I’m from South Carolina in the United States of America.
I’ve been living and working in Shimane for several years, and I’m excited to now be a part of the LLSR. I majored in Japanese Studies and Anthropology, with a minor in Linguistics, at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina (my hometown). So, I’ve always been interested in languages, communication, and learning about people and cultures. I’m also currently studying for an MSEd in TESOL, so I’m always learning new ways to support English language learners.
I enjoy helping students build confidence in speaking and using English in real-life situations. I know that speaking a foreign language can feel a little scary sometimes – but don’t worry! Let’s relax and enjoy using English together 🙂
In my free time, I like traveling, visiting cafes, and making sweets.
We might both be a little shy at first, but I promise I don’t bite! Please stop by to practice English, ask questions, or just chat ~

Ms. Samantha Hartley, the current LLSR administrator.
